Civil Ceremonies

Say "I Do" at our beautiful country house hotel!

One of the best things about holding your civil ceremony at Moor Hall Hotel & Spa is that you can relax in our hotel on the morning of your wedding with no need to travel to the church or register office. You will meet the registrar for your interview in one of our private rooms and then make your way to the magical Sunken Garden for an outside ceremony or to the elegant Charter Suite for an indoor ceremony.

After you say your vows, your guests can mingle in the bar or outside on the lawns whilst you have your wedding photographs and soak up the atmosphere.

Why Choose Moor Hall for your Outdoor Wedding Venue?

Moor Hall Hotel & Spa in Sutton Coldfield is a beautiful country house hotel and the perfect venue for wedding receptions and civil ceremonies for up to 180 guests. The hotel is a licensed civil ceremony venue and ceremonies can be the stylish licensed Charter Suite, or couples can choose to say “I Do” in our unique outdoor wedding venue.

Large Outdoor Wedding Venue

Moor Hall Hotel & Spa is the ideal setting for a romantic outdoor wedding. Our beautiful grounds and historic Sunken Garden provide the most magical outdoor wedding venue for up to 150 guests.

Your outdoor civil wedding ceremony will take place in our Sunken Garden, which is a woodland, fairy tale setting. The path to the Sunken Garden is lined with verbena and standard roses throughout the summer; and at the entrance stands a magnolia tree, which in springtime is in full bloom. Seasonal shrubbery borders and walls, built using stones from old local buildings, surround the Sunken Garden, along with woodlands with yew and hazel trees, making it a striking setting.

Records show the sunken garden was formed in around 1750 as a cock pit or bear pit. It was altered to a sunken garden in the late 19th century.

When is the Outdoor Wedding Venue available throughout the year?

Moor Hall’s outdoor wedding venue is available from April to October throughout the year. However, it is the Registrar’s final decision if the ceremony is to take place outside or in the hotel due to weather conditions.

Indoor and Outdoor Wedding Venue

We understand that it may be stressful not knowing if the weather will be fine for your outdoor wedding at Moor Hall. However, we will have the stunning Charter Suite prepared for an indoor ceremony if the weather doesn’t hold.

Where can the Outdoor Wedding Venue be accessed?

The wedding party will walk the woodland pathway around the back of the Sunken Garden to make a grand entrance at the top of the double staircase, which sits above a beautiful stone grotto.

The Sunken Garden can seat up to 150 guests for the ceremony, and the couple will exchange vows under the classical stone archway which hides two grottos.

After the ceremony the Sunken Garden makes a stunning backdrop to wedding photographs as well as the delightful grounds of the hotel.

Using the Moor Hall for your outdoor wedding

You can choose to have an outdoor wedding when you book your civil ceremony at Moor Hall or add it on at any time on the run up to your big day. We always have the outdoor furniture onsite, ready to setup for your ceremony. On the morning of your wedding day, it will depend on the weather on the day if the ceremony will be performed outside, and the final decision is with the Registrar.

How to book your Outdoor Wedding venue

If you would like to make a booking to hold a civil ceremony at Moor Hall hotel, you must first make a provisional booking with us and then contact the Superintendent Registrar for Birmingham Register Office at Holliday Wharf, Holliday Street, Birmingham, B1 1TJ.

Please note, should the weather be inclement, it will be the Registrar’s final decision if the ceremony is to take place outside or in the hotel.
