Why Drinking More Water Should Be Your Top Health Priority

Matt's Top Tips for Staying Hydrated

Drinking water is essential to keeping our body functioning properly. Fully hydrated bodies promote lubricated joints, elevated mood, more energy, higher productivity, and sometimes even weight loss. Hydration also keeps skin looking fresh and rejuvenated! However are we drinking enough of it? 

We have enlisted the help of our gym manager to answer some of the most important questions about getting your hydration on track and how it can help you progress in your fitness journey.

What is the importance of drinking water? 
Water makes up around 60% off our body weight, every cell, tissue and organ in our bodies depends on water to work properly. water also:

Flushes out toxins
Regulates our blood pressure and body temperature
Carries nutrient and oxygen to our cells
Improves digestion and prevents constipation
Protects our joints, organs and tissues. 

How much water should I be drinking on a daily basis?
 
The answer is, it depends. Each person is unique and has different variables that need to be considered for example, you need to drink more water if you have exercised to cover the fluid which has been lost, overall health  however you have probably heard the rule "drink around 8 glasses of water a day" it is a easy to remember goal. 

How do I know if I am drinking enough water? 
Now that we understand the importance of hydration, here are a few sign if you need to reach for the water:

Dry mouth and lips
Dark urine
Headaches
Fatigue or dizziness


Beyond the tap
You don't always need to rely on what you drink to meet your daily allowance, what you eat also provides a significant portion. Many fruits and vegetables such as watermelon and spinach are 100% water by weight. In addition to this milk, juice, herbal tea are composed of mostly water even coffee  can contribute to your intake!

Set a daily goal
Carry a reusable water bottle
Infuse with flavour, like cucumber, lemon, mint or berries
Drink a glass of water before a meal
