£4,000 donated to Breast Friends
Our caring staff have boosted a Sutton Coldfield breast cancer support group with a £4,000 donation after making it their charity of the year in 2016. The cheque was presented at Breast Friends’ Tribute Night on Friday 17th February which was attended by over 100 supporters.
The Breast Friends group was set up 21 years ago at nearby Good Hope Hospital to provide help and support for women and their families affected by breast cancer and the charity has had a longstanding connection with our hotel. Our donation will enable the charity to provide practical help for breast cancer patients with childcare, a laundry service or gardening or contribute towards the cost of wheelchairs, riser recliner chairs or stair lifts.
The hotel’s fundraising activities in 2016 included 12 members of staff taking part in the Great Midlands Fun Run and a hugely successful Ascot Ladies’ Day lunch, which saw £5 of each ticket donated to the charity. Collection boxes were also placed throughout the hotel and donations were collected at various events.
Angela Burns, Chief Executive at Moor Hall Hotel & Spa, said: “We are delighted to have raised this money which will make a positive difference to the lives of many breast cancer patients. We have welcomed the Breast Friends group many times over the 21 years since they were founded and felt we really wanted to support their brilliant work. We would like to give a special thank you to our customers who donated generously to our fund during the year”
Breast Friends founder member Jackie Benzecry said: “We’re very grateful to the staff at Moor Hall Hotel & Spa for raising this money. All of our work is done by volunteers so the £4,000 will help us to continue to provide vital, practical support to many local women affected by breast cancer.”
