Civil Wedding Ceremonies

We offer an elegant setting for your civil ceremony or partnership in a choice of charming rooms or outside in our Sunken Garden.

Civil marriage and partnership ceremonies can be performed in one of two delightful licensed rooms at Moor Hall; or new for 2018, you can choose to get married outdoors in our Sunken Garden, so your whole day can be conducted within the hotel and no one needs to be concerned about travelling from the church or Register office to the reception.

Between the ceremony and the wedding breakfast there will be ample time to enjoy the delightful grounds and sunken garden which are a stunning backdrop to wedding photographs.

The first step in arranging a civil marriage or partnership is to provisionally reserve a date and time for your ceremony with us. You will then be issued with an Approval Holder's letter, which should be taken to the Birmingham Register Office in order to make a booking for Registrar staff to attend.

The Sunken Garden

Our historic Sunken Garden has been approved for Marriage and Civil Partnership ceremonies, making it the ideal outdoor civil ceremony venue.

The Sunken Garden at Moor Hall is a woodland, fairy tale setting for your outdoor civil ceremony. The path to the Sunken Garden is lined with verbena and standard roses throughout the summer; and at the entrance stands a magnolia tree, which in springtime is in full bloom. Seasonal shrubbery borders and walls, built using stones from old local buildings, surround the Sunken Garden, along with woodlands with yew and hazel trees, making it a striking setting.

The wedding party will walk the woodland pathway around the back of the Sunken Garden to make a grand entrance at the top of the double staircase, which sits above a beautiful stone grotto.

The Sunken Garden can seat up to 200 guests for the marriage or civil partnership ceremony, and the couple will exchange vows under the classical stone archway which inside is hides two grottos.
