Our Environmental Policy
At BEST WESTERN PREMIER Moor Hall Hotel & Spa we recognise the potential effect of our operations on the local, regional and global environment. As part of our objective to be the first choice hotel in the area, we are committed to minimising and controlling our impact on the environment through a series of continuous improvements.
We will strive to improve our environmental performance and to prevent pollution by achieving the standards set by the Green Tourism Business Scheme - www.green-business.co.uk.
We are committed to meeting the requirements of all relevant legislation and regulations and, where no legislation exists, we will set our own minimum standards.
Our commitment:
- We will encourage and support our ‘Green Team’ to identify ways to reduce our carbon footprint and to implement eco-friendly policies.
- We will source food locally as much as possible.
- We will work with our suppliers to reduce transport and packaging.
- Our energy, water and paper use will be monitored and controlled to reduce consumption at every opportunity.
- We will endeavour to recycle our waste and to purchase recycled goods wherever possible.
- We will continue to convert our waste kitchen oil into bio diesel to fuel company vehicles.

It’s great to be green!
Becoming a more environmentally friendly business has long been at the top of our agenda at Moor Hall, and recently we have received official recognition for our efforts in the form of two awards and a nomination.
SME award for Energy Efficiency
The national Environmental and Energy awards celebrate excellence and innovation from businesses and are seen as one of the highest accolades for sustainability in the corporate sector - this year there were a record number of entries for the 13 categories so we were delighted to be one of the winners!
Birmingham’s Green Restaurant Awards – Waste Management award
We are delighted to have won the Green Restaurant Award for Waste Management from Birmingham City Council which places us as one of the city’s most sustainable and environmentally aware dining establishments.
Our latest green initiatives include a food waste converter which converts 1 ton of food waste per week into pellets which are used to fuel power stations, a heat recovery system which redistributes excess heat from the swimming pool to other areas and the installation of energy efficient light bulbs, infra red lighting in some areas and energy efficient boilers.
Green Champion of The Year
Carl Mullen, a member of our Maintenance team, was shortlisted for the national Considerate Hoteliers Green Champion of the Year award which recognises the dedication and determination of staff who inspire others and lead the way with green initiatives in their hotel. Carl was highly commended for the work he has put into restoring the woods around Moor Hall - in his own time, with help from a colleague, Ray Lamb, he has cleared away several tons of decomposed leaves and over seventy laurel bushes to reveal a beautiful serpentine pathway, stone arches and what was once a shrubbery garden.
The area was officially opened by Andrew Mitchell MP on Friday 17th June as part of the hotel’s 50th anniversary celebrations.
Free of charge!
You may have seen the electric cars on TV, maybe on Top Gear, but would you know where to charge one if you were to go away for the night? Well, now you do! At Moor Hall we’ve just installed a charging point which is absolutely free for guests to plug into! If you wish to charge your electric car whilst staying at Moor Hall, all you have to do is let our reception team know when you book.
